Cacti in the Wichitas

Nature

On a trip to the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge, I was in awe at the number of different cacti species.  Growing up in Georgia, you don’t see many cacti, unless they are potted in your house.  Thanks to my mom, I got my love of this prickly plant in just this way.  She grew up enjoying tiny potted cacti on the windowsill, and she did the same with me as a kid.  Therefore, these plants are one of my favorite parts of hiking Elk Mountain in the Wichitas.
