I am so thrilled to see my prairie dog photo in a press release from the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife! Prairie dog towns give shelter and food to many other species of wildlife, and rangers created a colony for prairie dogs in the Canton Wildlife Management Area.
I love prairie dogs. Never before have I seen an animal that so obviously works as a part of a community.
“Welcome to our humble abode.”
“Oh hey, looks like we’ve got company. You guard that back entrance, and I’ll keep watch up front.”
“What do you think you’re looking at?”
“Did you hear about Lucy?” (And yes, I know prairie dogs don’t usually have names, but they definitely do act like they’re gossiping!)
Thanks to the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge for making a space for these prairie dogs to burrow, play, eat, and gossip. They sure are entertaining!
