50/365: Thanksgiving Prep

Personal, Project 365

Last year, I made Thanksgiving dinner and we invited friends over.  This year, I was thankful for that practice run – our family came to town!  One of my favorite things to cook for Thanksgiving is the turkey brine.  I make it on Wednesday morning, right at the start of my break from work.  It makes a wonderful aroma, and it definitely makes it feel like the holidays.

When it came to crunch time of roasting vegetables, warming casseroles, cutting the turkey, and making the gravy, my mom and mother-in-law came in to help.  Thanks for traveling to Oklahoma, family!  We loved having you!

As I cooked my first Thanksgiving meal yesterday, I realized a few things…

1. I’m thankful for having the day before Thanksgiving off work to prepare.

2. I’m thankful for the wealth of resources online (mainly Food Network and The Pioneer Woman) to answer questions and provide beautiful pictures of recipes.

3. Most importantly, I’m thankful for all of the women in my family.  They are the ultimate resource for Thanksgiving how-to’s.

Thanks to all of the moms and grandmas in our family for not only pulling off this feast each year, but also for teaching me how to do the same.
